Since I started violin lessons with Sumina, finally, I understand that my posture problem was partially due to my chin rest (no one pointed out for 15 years!). I love that she knows where my issues are coming from. In my past experiences, I often was told an issue, but not necessarily told why that is happening, so I either didn't understand why I have to fix it, or just play and overcome somehow. But Sumina is great at pinpointing those background of the issues, so it's efficient.
The biggest difference that Sumina's lessons made for me is that being confident on myself that I can experimenting the sound by myself, rather than being told exactly how to play (being told how to play is also important. But I never had an experience on "building" a piece by myself. Sumina is great at that balance. And now, I’m capable of many things that I couldn't do before! (Ricochet, experimenting with the notes, be conscious about the shape of the left hand, mindful about the weight of the right arm, etc.). Sumina's violin lessons WON'T be right for you if you're looking to be told exactly how to play, since she encourages you to express what your own interpretation is."

“The first lesson was quite intense as it was the first time in years that I had such detailed feedback input. Sumina shared a lot of teaching videos online which tackle more subtle technical parts that I am looking for as an intermediate player. In the online violin lessons, Sumina is friendly yet strict in a good way, she pushes and encourages me and she reminds me that above all I need to keep it fun. I always feel I learn something new at every lesson.
Since I started having violin lessons with Sumina, I understand how to break difficult/challenging phrases into manageable pieces. Now, I’m capable of recognizing my struggles in the pieces and using the techniques she taught - for example checking my intonation with open string, or using a supporting note when shifting. Sometimes I got frustrated that on day 1 I could not seem to get it right but after a few days I was surprised that her practice method made me able to do it.
